Florida's new 'Don't Say Gay' bill is an all out assault on LGBTQI rights.
And the Walt Disney Corporation donated to EVERY SINGLE MEMBER of the Florida Congress who sponsored or co-sponsored the bill.
The 'Don't Say Gay' bill will make it a crime to talk about sexual orientation in schools, a hateful move that would throw inclusivity out the window. An earlier version of the legislation would have also required mandatory disclosure to parents if kids came out to teachers or if schools otherwise learned the child identified as queer -- denying students their right to privacy and to come out when and how they choose. In essence, it will set us back decades and lead to terrible and tragic outcomes for children throughout the state.
So why is Disney, a company that markets itself as a friend to the gay community, ducking and dodging when it comes to its support for the lawmakers behind this horrible bill?
Sign the petition to tell Disney the world is watching, and sees its support of hateful and discriminatory policy makers!
After journalists and online commentators put some heat on Disney, it issued an evasive statement, sidestepping responsibility for all its donations to the lawmakers who support this hateful bill saying that its movies and TV shows will speak for themselves. Disney CEO Bob Chapek told employees he was afraid of the 'blowback' if the company speaks out.
Nice try. Actions speak louder than words, and money talks loudest of all. Disney's donations to hate and discrimination demand an answer.
So, Bob, where does Disney stand? Will Disney stand up for the gay community, or will it side with hate?
Take action today, and sign the petition demanding Disney CEO Bob Chapek take back its donations, and take further steps to oppose this hateful bill including condemning it entirely!
