Tell the NC Utilities Commission to reject Duke Energy's draft Carbon Plan

Under a new law passed in the North Carolina General Assembly last year, Duke Energy must propose a plan to cut their carbon dioxide emissions 70% by 2030. In May, Duke Energy released their plan to curb their carbon emissions, but the proposal falls short of what North Carolina needs.

While Duke has included some renewable energy options, they continue to call for the building of new dirty fossil fuel plants. It's time for them to stop turning a blind eye to climate change. This proposal isn't good enough and the NCUC needs to hear that from you.

Please sign our petition urging the NCUC to reject this dirty energy plan!
We, the undersigned, urge the NC Utilities Commission to reject Duke Energy's draft Carbon Plan and order a Carbon Plan which prioritizes clean energy resources like offshore wind, solar and storage, not new natural gas facilities. It's imperative that the plan prioritizes the speedy retirement of fossil fuel plants in overburdened communities but equally important not to replace them with new carbon-emitting facilities. Last, we urge the Commission to order Duke Energy to be clear as to where it intends to site new fossil generation and the infrastructure that generation depends upon so that potential community impacts can be evaluated.

Duke Energy should not be allowed to build a new generation of fossil fuel plants and pipelines when clean, affordable options are available. Please reject their draft plan and require them to submit one which prioritizes clean energy resources.
