Browsing through the pet section at our local Arroyo Grande Walmart yesterday, my 8 year old daughter noticed something very disturbing, and pulled me down to her height:
"Look mama! Those poor fish are getting sucked into the filter! There are dead ones floating at the top! How can we save the rest? Please!"
She was right. My heart broke when I saw dozens of DEAD AND DECOMPOSING goldfish in a hightly overcrowded tank! The tank was located at my knee level, probably why I didn't noticed the sickening situation, but my daughter did. Goldfish weren't the only fish suffering, there were dead puffer fish, eels, sharks, guppies and more! All were in gross, murky green water with no thermometers or clean filters. All looked like they were in distress!
The tanks for each group of fish were around 5 gallons, yet some tanks had as many as 100+ fish with nearly half of them dead! That's beyond cruel.
