INHUMAN TERMINATION OF APPOINTMENT WITHOUT COMPENSATION

A PETTITION  INRESPECT OF UNJUSTIFYABLE TERMINATION OF APPOINMENT OF SAMAILA MAMMAN WITHOUT COMPENSATION
BY THE MANAGEMENT OF UNITY BANK PLC .JANUARY 2011

I was born in sokoto and an indigene of illela local Govt of sokoto state .
I started work with Bank of the north in sep 1992 and continued with Unity Bank plc after the merger in 2006.I was transferred to Agwara in Niger state in 2002 from sokoto market branch and had worked very hard and tirelessly for the bank.
I was told in December 2010 that the Bank no longer required my services without a single kobo to even transport myself and family back home. I wrote to the management and the union (ASSBIFIE) of my petition/grievance, though the management wrote declining my request the union have yet to respond to me officially. I do not have the money to hire a lawyer to drag them to court. I would have agreed with them if I do not have the following reasons on which I based my petition.
1.The management reason for terminating my services  was that I was unable to achieve my target both on deposit and revenue generation and this was because the branch was allowed to remain at the present location  at the mercy of the community and their leaders not based on feasibility studies submitted by the Wada Charanchi and Musa Nasamu both staffs of the cooperate department in head office, the various Audit reports and as well as  the branch submissions on non viability of the area which at a time the management opted for relocating the branch but was halted because the local govt chairman  pleaded .The then MD Alh Falalu Bello accepted their plead and sent some staff which included Ibrahim mohammed Gidi, some staff of minna region and myself to convey the management approval for declining their opted action for relocation. Therefore I was appraised knowing fully by the  management  that the branch can not perform or break even as it has not for the last 15 years. The fictitious figures were set on me to help them  actualized their desire  of doing away with me with no compensation.

2.Partial and unjustifiable treatment meted on me. The branch  has two  marketing staff Mohammed Katun Shehu and myself  and while the same figures were being used to appraised the two of us but to my surprise I was only affected while the other was allowed to remain. this I believe was  because am not of the same tribe with the regional office administrators whom are nupes by tribe and Muslims while aim Hausa and a Christian.

3. Previous disengagement .The previous disengagement that was carried out months before mine carries full and handsome compensation to the staff while I was only told to go that my service was no longer required .Having known fully that I was never queried for any gross misconduct I fond it very difficult to understand the rational used to compensate others while refusing pay me.

4.Purposefull violation of staff agreement by abandoning me in one location for 8 years
despite my continues request for a voluntary and a transfer without claims. The management policy is that a staff should not be allowed to stay in a particular branch for more than 5 years but for the fact that am from a less privileged background I was denied the opportunity. While others will come and be transferred away within a short time I was
allowed to remain in the same branch for 8 years and all my request was turned down with no reason to back their decision.

 5.The letter indicating my service was no longer required was type as at 10th of December while I signed and worked till 23rd of December 2010 .I was only handed the letter in January 2011.January 2011 complete 5 years working with unity bank..

6.50% was Paid to us as part payment for our services with Bank of the north during the
merger while the remaining 50% is still outstanding.

I will not forget to mention that the bank was just ungrateful to my service and hard work because some one was interested in punishing me, for it was a well known fact in my region( minna )and head office that I am a hard working staff and trust worthy as i was at a time holding the banks both vault keys for many months  due to lack of personnel and could not touch their money instead of commending me they decided to disgrace me.

Ordinarily this type of payback is not to be found in a civilized society, for the Bank to be
human and caring there is always the need to prepare her staffs mind against their actions.
While some Banks will even engage her staff for a  weeks training to enable them set their staffs mind before handing them their termination letters and  hope that they have a successful life after working with them. Unity bank has a very inhuman way of ending a
relationship that often  sent many to  grave early because of this greedy ending by the management of unity Bank.

Its my prayer that the management will amicable consider my grievance and make appropriate compensation or gives my job back.
