Deliveroo: Pay your workers in Brighton fairly!

A significant strike is being planned in Brighton, as exploited Deliveroo workers fight for fair pay. Please sign this petition to support their demand for reasonable pay of £5 per delivery, and help us send out a strong message of support for Deliveroo riders.

One Brighton Deliveroo rider said: "It is becoming relatively common to work on average for £4 an hour, especially during the day from Monday to Thursday, when you only get one delivery an hour." The current minimum wage is £7.20 an hour for over-25s, but many Deliveroo riders are not making that much.

Deliveroo drivers' work contracts are horribly precarious, offering no job security, no sick pay, no paid holidays and no guaranteed hours. The multinational online food delivery company is part of the so-called "gig economy", claiming it does not employ its riders (either as workers or as employees), which exempts it from paying the minimum wage and other basic responsibilities.

However, following a ruling last year that Uber drivers are workers not independent contractors, IWGB is seeking a similar ruling for Deliveroo riders. In the meantime, they are campaigning for better pay for workers in Brighton - an increase from £4 to £5 per delivery.

Please sign our petition to support the demands of the riders, who are campaigning for £5 per delivery.

A Deliveroo rider says, "If we can act together we can force them to listen to our demands and we know that the IWGB has been successful with this in the past."

----

Mags Dewhurst, from IWGB, said: "The Deliveroo riders are not asking for anything unreasonable. They deserve the right to the national minimum wage, a fair contract and paid annual leave. These riders have the full support of the IWGB."

IWGB submitted a letter to the CEO of Deliveroo on behalf of its members two weeks ago making this demand, after Brighton Deliveroo workers staged a protest. Deliveroo have so far failed to agree to the pay rise.

Update #17 years ago
Thanks for signing the petition- the support is incredible! The campaign has been going strong & riders are enthusiastic http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/15156740.Delivery_riders_hopping_mad_over_low_wages/?commentSort=score. As a very low resource grassroots union we also want to ask for your financial support so we can run campaigns like this & hold employers to account via tribunals. If you all give just £5 we can double our operations! https://www.crowdpac.co.uk/campaigns/216/iwgb
