Don't Cut Funding for Public Broadcasting!

President Donald Trump's recent budget proposal calls for a complete cut of funds for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). Most of CPB funds support local TV and radio stations. NPR also receives a small amount of its funding from CPB. No other president in history has ever recommended a complete gutting of CPB funds.

White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, who supports the cut, said, "Can we really continue to ask a coal miner in West Virginia or a single mom in Detroit to pay for these programs? The answer was no." But public media only costs each citizen about $1.35 per year. The examples Mulvaney gave are exactly the types who need public TV and radio the most: poor, working class citizens and mothers who can't afford cable or high-speed internet and rely on public media for news and educational programming.

For decades, CPB has offered Americans equal access to high-quality news, children's programming like Sesame Street, and entertaining, wholesome family programming. Please sign the petition to urge Congress to reject Trump's plans to cut funding for CPB!
