Canada: Stop Blocking Vital Carbon Reduction!

Canada recently agreed to a 'low-carbon' energy strategy at the G7 leader's summit, but what might seem like good news on the surface has a worrying underbelly.

According to sources at the summit, Canada was working behind the scenes to weaken the commitment and water down plans to reduce carbon emissions.

A strong commitment at the G7 summit to reach zero carbon emissions could have lead the way for a breakthrough agreement by the United Nations to greenhouse emission reduction. Instead, Canada was one of just two nations holding out for a vague and weakened agreement.

That puts the future of our environment at risk and it puts Canada out of touch with G7 and other international consensus on climate change.

It's time for Stephen Harper to stop the vague and toothless platitudes and start taking real action to protect our environment. Canada cannot continue to hold back international progress while pushing for devastating projects like the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline and continued tar sands exploration at home.

Send PM Harper and the Canadian government a message today: Stop holding back progress on protecting our environment and agree to real, meaningful reduction in carbon emissions at this December's UN Climate Summit!
