Canadians Say: Make the Biggest Polluters Pay for Climate Justice

Climate change is hurting everyone, but those living in poverty, both in Canada and around the world, are bearing the worst of it. Millions of people are being forced to flee their homes due to wildfires, rising sea levels, and other climate-related disasters. Climate change has become one of the leading drivers of forced displacement globally. Meanwhile, fossil fuel giants and the ultra-rich continue to profit from the destruction.

Canada has the power — and the responsibility — to lead. By taxing the excess profits of polluting companies, we can fund climate solutions and support the communities on the frontlines of this crisis.

This is a matter of justice. No more excuses. Let's make sure those who caused the crisis help pay to fix it.

Join over 80% of people in Canada, who support taxing the biggest and richest polluters to support the communities who are bearing the brunt of the climate crisis.

Send a message today to the Minister of Finance and National Revenue, The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne. Tell our leaders to make polluters and the ultra-rich pay their fair share.
Subject: 82% of people in Canada agree: Make Big Polluters Pay for the Climate Crisis

Dear Minister Champagne,

The climate crisis has devastated far too many lives, from record-breaking wildfires and floods in Canada to deadly droughts and food shortages around the world. Yet while those who contributed the least to it suffer the worst consequences, the biggest polluters and wealthiest individuals continue to profit from the destruction.

A recent Oxfam survey found that 82% of people in Canada support channelling revenues from higher taxes on oil and gas corporations towards communities that are most impacted by the climate crisis.

I'm calling on you to take urgent action:

Tax the excess profits of Canada's largest polluting corporations.

Use these revenues to increase Canada's international climate finance, so communities in low-income countries can adapt and recover.

Incentivize the oil and gas sector to shift investment flows towards renewable energy.

Canada must do its fair share to combat the climate crisis and support those who are unjustly suffering the most.

We have the resources. We have the solutions. What we need now is the political will to make polluters pay their fair share. Please help make Canada a global leader in climate justice.

Sincerely,
