Take Action Now: Help Us Protect Life Sciences Jobs and Virginia Patients

This session, Virginia lawmakers are looking to find ways to address rising health care costs, but no solution should come at the expense of patients across the Commonwealth by limiting treatment access and future medical innovation. Unfortunately, that's exactly what legislation that several Virginia lawmakers are considering to enact would do – and we need your help to stop it.

House Bill 570 and Senate Bill 274 would create a Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB) here in Virginia. This board would empower government-appointed bureaucrats to artificially set prescription drug prices without taking patient preferences into account, potentially putting critical care out of reach for Virginia patients and stifling our leading life sciences innovation economy.

ACT NOW: TELL VA LEGISLATORS TO PROTECT PATIENTS AND LOCAL INNOVATION

Virginia Bio encourages you to join your fellow advocates and tell your state lawmakers that implementing a PDAB is not the answer to lowering out-of-pocket costs for patients. Send a letter today!

Dear [Lawmaker Name],

As your constituent, I urge you to protect Virginia patients and oppose House Bill 570 (HB570) and Senate Bill (SB274), legislation that would have a devastating impact on treatment access for patients and future medical innovation happening right here in the Commonwealth.

HB570 and SB274 would establish a Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB) in Virginia and give power to government-appointed bureaucrats to artificially set prescription drug prices without taking patient preferences into account. Although well intentioned, establishing a PDAB in Virginia could have dire consequences on patient access to timely and effective care and hinder the ability of our local life sciences industry to address public health challenges and bring new treatments to patients in need.

The Virginia General Assembly is right to find solutions to lower prescription drug costs but not at the cost of patients, jobs, and innovation happening across the state. Virginia patients need commonsense solutions that will positively impact what patients pay out-of-pocket for their medicines and maintain the Commonwealth's robust life sciences industry. Please oppose HB570 and SB274. Patients across the state are depending on you to stand with them.
