Tell Utah Lawmakers: Don't Raise Our Costs. Vote NO on SB 211

The Utah Legislature is considering passing SB 211, a bill that would overturn a key court decision (Gardner v. Norman). Since its ruling, medical damages in lawsuits are required to be based on the actual money paid for medical bills, rather than fictional list prices that no one ever pays. This practice is often called "phantom damages."

While this may sound like a technical legal issue, the financial impact on Utah families and local businesses is very real. Bringing back these "phantom damages" could lead to increased costs for Utah workers, families, and local businesses.

We need to protect the progress we have made. Tell your lawmakers to help keep costs down for Utah families and local businesses by upholding the court's ruling and rejecting SB 211.

Dear [Senator],

I am writing to urge you to vote NO on SB 211.

I am concerned that this bill would overturn the Gardner v. Norman decision, which has been important for keeping costs fair in our state. The Gardner decision has made sure compensation in lawsuits is based on the real medical costs paid, not inflated bills that no one pays.

If we reverse this decision, it could lead to higher costs for families and local businesses. Utahns are already dealing with high prices. We can't afford legislation that could make it even more expensive to live and work here.

Please protect your constituents' wallets. I urge you to reject SB 211 and keep our legal system fair.

Sincerely,
