UK: Stop Funding Bullfights with Taxes

Every year, £110 million of taxpayer money is given to Spanish farmers who use their pastures to raise fighting bulls. Under the guise of "Common Agriculture Policy," these federal subsidies are the key support that keeps the bullfighting industry from financial ruin.

Rejecting bullfighting is about more than revenue: it's about rejecting torture. "Standard" treatments for fighting bulls include blinding them, beating them, sawing off their horns, administering heavy laxatives, and depriving them of sight, all before the fight.

Afterwards, as you probably know, the bulls are surrounded by several men and brutally stabbed to death -- in what is unarguably the bloodiest spectacle. Even bloodless bullfights conclude with stressed and injured animals who suffer.

Financial analysts and social commentators agree: government funding has no place in heartless bloodsports. Tell the government that we won't fund their misguided bullfighting subsidies any longer.
Dear [Decisionmaker],

I am writing to condemn federal subsidies that support bullfighting. Every year, £110 million of tax-payer money is given to Spanish farmers who use their pastures to raise fighting bulls.

Considering this money comes from my taxes, I am appalled to be associated with such heartless practice. You are the primary support for the thriving bullfighting industry, and we the undersigned are disgusted to promote a figurehead of violence.

Rejecting bullfighting is about more than revenue: it's about rejecting torture. Government funding has no place in heartless bloodsport, and we won't fund your misguided recreations any longer.

Thank you,
