Rumors have been swirling for months that Justice Anthony Kennedy may retire from the Supreme Court at the end of the court’s current term this week. Kennedy’s retirement would allow President Trump to continue reshaping the court by appointing a second, ultra-conservative judge, following Neil Gorsuch’s appointment.
In his first six months in office, President Trump has continuously attacked our Constitution and democracy.
If we want to protect our rights, Trump cannot appoint another Supreme Court judge. Please sign this petition asking Justice Kennedy to stay on the Supreme Court for four more years to prevent another Trump nominee from joining the court. Though Justice Kennedy is a conservative Republican, he has often sided with liberal judges in pivotal Supreme Court cases. Kennedy cast the swing vote in Obergefell v. Hodges, legalizing same-sex marriage in the United States. He also cast decisive votes to protect both abortion and race-based affirmative action.
If Kennedy retires and Trump appoints a replacement, Roe v. Wade will likely be overturned. We cannot let President Trump sway the court any more than he already has. Please sign this petition asking Justice Kennedy not to resign and to stay on the Supreme Court for four more years!
