American made sneakers for US servicemen

  • av: Cindy Miars
  • mottagare: The President - Department of Defense - Congress

Our men and women in uniform deserve the very best uniforms and equipment and, thanks to the 1941 Berry Amendment, those uniforms must be made in the USA. But a loophole in this amendment excludes athletic footwear and, as a result, the US government spends $15 million annually on footwear vouchers for soldiers, without requiring the footwear to be American made.

This can not be allowed to go on any longer when there are companies in America willing and waiting for this order. Our servicemen are Americans and every part of their uniform down to their sneakers should be made in America.

Please sign the petition to get the President, the Department of Defense, and Congress to see that every part of a US servicemen's uniform is entirley made in the US.

Due to recent events between the government & New Balance, hopefully this petition is no longer needed. Thank you all for helping out. The petition is now closed.

4/25/2014 - Secretary of Defense Christine Fox sent a letter to Maine Rep. Michaud that the Pentagon has issued a new rule that will require recruits to use an $80 allowance for running shoes to buy only a product made entirely in the United States. It also states that, currently, “no footwear manufacturer sells Berry Amendment-compliant athletic shoes.” When they become available they must be tested. Until then, “recruits can buy any brand that meets their needs,” said Fox.
