Save the Northern Rockies Fisher

The Northern Rockies fisher, a small cat-like mammal, is severely endangered due in large part to trapping. Few people are familiar with this gentle creature, but his species could fall by the wayside regardless. The United States Fish and Wildlife Service is studying the fisher with an eye to listing it on the endangered species list. But listing a species as endangered is a long, slow process, and the fisher may not have that much time.

Meanwhile, two states where fishers still exist could protect their fisher populations simply be prohibiting trapping and killing of the fisher species. Please join me in asking the state legislatures of Idaho and Montana to protect this animal's population by outlawing trapping of the Northern Rockies fisher.

To the State Legislatures of Idaho and Montana:

We the undersigned are sad to learn that the Northern Rockies fisher hovers on the brink of extinction. So little is known about this cat-like mammal. It is not a household name. As such the fisher has not had the chance to make people love it--as they love polar bears and bluebirds. The United States Fish and Wildlife Service is rightly concerned about the steep decline of this animal's population. Listing the fisher as endangered is certainly a step in the right direction, but it's a long, slow process. Meanwhile, you could do something to save the fisher this year. Please outlaw trapping of the Northern Rockies fisher in your states.
