Swedish Zoo Euthanized Nine Healthy Lion Cubs

Since 2012, Boras Djurpark in Sweden has euthanized nine lion cubs because it couldn't keep them. Considered "surplus animals," these cubs were perfectly healthy, but, according to the zoo, they were rejected by their pride and no other zoos were able to take them.

But these cubs don't belong in a zoo at all — they belong in a sanctuary where they won't be senselessly killed. Please join in demanding that Boras Djurpark release all of its remaining lions to a sanctuary where they will have a real chance at life.

Boras Djurpark has not attempted to keep these killings a secret. For the zoo, it is just part of protocol. If it can't find another zoo to sell surplus animals to, they are killed.

This is one of many reasons zoos shouldn't exist in the first place. Stripping animals from their natural environment and caging them up for human entertainment is already cruel enough. But then to kill them for not thriving in an unnatural habitat? That's barbaric.

If you don't want to see any more lions killed for no reason, please sign this petition urging Boras Djurpark to send all its remaining lions to a sanctuary and commit to finding alternatives to euthanasia in the future.
