Save the Great Lakes from Algae Blooms!

Algae blooms in Lake Erie have already threatened the water supply of 500,000 people in the City of Toledo and surrounding areas. These blooms create microsystin which is a very dangerous toxin.

If you drink water with microsystin in it, you will develop severe liver damage. Even washing or brushing your teeth in water tainted with this toxin will expose you to this terrible side effect. People with auto immune disorders are especially vulnerable to water tainted with microsystin.

Currently, the State of Michigan does not even require water treatment plants to test for microsytin. Ohio is not much better, and despite being told many times Lake Erie as a water source is dangerous there are no laws to require farmers and sewage treatment plants to quit dumping phosphorus in the lake, which is the main culprit causing algae blooms.

We must make our government wake up and start making them clean up this mess. How many people will be poisoned by this water before they wake up!!!

Sign this petition and make Ohio, Indiana and Michigan legislatures pass laws regulating testing of microsystin and banning the use of phosphorus for farming.
