Urge Walmart to Fight Food Waste and Hunger

"Ugly" produce is ending up in landfills because some supermarket chains don't want to carry it. This means that up to 40 percent of nourishing fruits and vegetables that taste just as good as their "perfect" counterparts are thrown away. Meanwhile, 1 in 6 Americans go hungry.

Walmart, the largest grocer in the United States, still doesn't carry malformed produce in their stores. While the retailer has started selling misshapen produce in their UK-based chain, Asda, they have yet to take action in the United States.

Misshapen produce looks just as good when chopped up in a salad or in soups. Selling this produce at a cheaper price would help lower-income families to eat more, and eat healthier. Selling "ugly" fruits and vegetables rather than throwing them away would also increase profits for farmers and stores.

Please sign the petition to urge Walmart to fight food waste and hunger and start selling "ugly" produce!

Mr. Mcmillon:

I am writing to encourage you to reduce food waste and help hungry families by carrying malformed produce in your stores.

I understand that Walmart does not currently carry malformed produce in their stores. While I applaud your efforts to sell misshapen produce in their UK-based chain, Asda, I believe it is time to take action in the United States.
