Dear [lawmaker],
As a constituent, I am writing in support of the H.R. 2407, the Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act, which will help save lives from cancer. Please mark-up this bill in the Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee as soon as possible.
More than 600,000 people in America will die of cancer in 2024 alone. Too many of these individuals are diagnosed with cancer in later stages, when the disease is harder and more expensive to treat and too often when the disease has already spread.
Multi-cancer early detection tests are potentially lifesaving innovations that can help detect dozens of cancer types for which there is no current screening tool. H.R. 2407 would create a pathway for Medicare to cover these tests and help save lives and healthcare costs once they are approved by the FDA and shown to have clinical benefit.
Already, more than 300 members of Congress have signed on as cosponsors of the bill, but we need it to be marked-up by the Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee in order to move forward and be made into law. The bill was recently passed in the Ways & Means Committee in a 38-0 bipartisan vote.
Please mark-up H.R. 2407, the Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
[your name]
