Smog does more than cloud your view — it irritates your lungs, triggers asthma attacks, increases emergency room visits and can lead to irreversible lung damage or even death.
The American Lung Association even described breathing smog as like getting "a sunburn inside your lungs."
Our kids and our communities deserve clean air, free from the smog pollution that comes from burning fossil fuels.
Tell the EPA to follow the science and set the strongest possible national protections against dangerous smog pollution.

Along with all 2.4 million Sierra Club members and supporters, I want to thank you for taking important steps to protect our communities from dangerous smog pollution. I urge you to move forward with the strongest possible standard.
The Environmental Protection Agency has a responsibility to protect public health and clean up smog pollution by setting a standard no higher than 60 parts per billion.
Because of persistent smog problems, kids in communities across the country are too often at risk of asthma attacks and other respiratory problems.
Six years ago, the Bush Administration sided with big polluters by setting standards that were weaker than both EPA and independent medical experts have said were necessary to protect our children, and President Obama promised to reverse that decision.
We cannot wait any longer. Now is the time to follow sound science and establish the strongest possible smog standard that will ensure our children can breathe clean and healthy air when they play outside.
