NC, Prevent Toxic "Garbage Juice" Spills

We need your help to stop an effort that will allow toxic "garbage juice" to leak across our neighborhoods.

Senate Bill 328 (S328), if passed, would change a state law that requires North Carolina garbage trucks to be "leak-proof" (meaning NO leaks). S328 would allow these trucks to simply be "leak-resistant," an undefined and unenforceable standard pushed by the garbage industry.

This leaking garbage juice is nasty and toxic. In fact, a news report in Cleveland, Ohio, found that high levels of the deadly listeria bacteria were found dripping onto local neighborhood streets. Some experts have said that coming in contact with just a single drop of listeria is enough to make you sick.

Once this toxic juice leaks, it can splash on to other vehicles or pedestrians, into our waterways, and in neighborhoods it can get on children walking or playing in the streets. Tell your state legislators that you want them to oppose S328 today!
Dear Decision-Makers,

Please oppose Senate Bill 328. This proposal could endanger our communities by allowing garbage trucks to leak a toxic slurry from neighborhood to neighborhood. Current state law requires all garbage trucks to be "leak-proof" and changing this standard could endanger our communities with exposure to toxic bacteria such as listeria.

I urge you to oppose S328.
