Protect Snow Leopards - Urge Congress to Act!

As few as 3,500 Snow Leopards are left in the wild today. The snow leopard is supremely adapted to its mountain home – with their thick furry tails nearly as long as the rest of their bodies, dense, woolly fur and markings that camouflage them against the rocky slopes.

The main threat to the snow leopard's survival comes from human activities. Snow leopards are hunted illegally for their pelts. They also face retribution killings from herders over livestock and their habitat is being degraded and fragmented.

Many people in the mountain communities throughout snow leopard habitat live on less than $1 a day. They just don't have resources to protect snow leopards. Luckily, snow leopards have a unprecedented opportunity for added protection from the U.S. Government through the Great Cats and Rare Canids Act - making its way through Congress right now!

Tell Congress to support The Great Cats and Rare Canids Act, and provide much needed funding to protect Snow Leopards and other rare species.

Dear [Decision maker],

As a person who is concerned about the decline of the snow leopard and other rare predators around the world, I urge you to support H.R. 1464 and S. 1033, the Great Cats and Rare Canids Act.

The Great Cats and Rare Canids Act legislation in the House (H.R. 1464) - and in the Senate (S. 1033) - is an effective mechanism to facilitate species conservation globally.

The Great Cats and Rare Canids Act will help conserve 21 rare species, including snow leopards, lions, jaguars, Ethiopian wolves, African wild dogs and other carnivores. These species are being threatened by habitat loss, poaching, disease, pollution and human-wildlife conflict and need a strong international commitment for their conservation.

Now is the time to increase the momentum and have Great Cats and Rare Canids enacted by the 110th Congress. Please do your part by supporting this important legislation.
