Tell President Obama to Create a Caregiver Corps

With $1 trillion in outstanding student debt and 40% of our elderly population unable to afford assisted living, something has got to change. It's time for an organization that takes care of our seniors and creates opportunities for younger Americans to start their careers and begin to establish their finances.

Tell President Obama to develop a Caregiver Corps: an organization that places recent college graduates with families and assisted living residences in exchange for debt forgiveness.

Assisted living residences have paved the way for older folks to stay active in their golden years. The Caregiver Corps would take that principle a step further while bridging the gap between generations. It would also benefit the financial security of younger and older Americans alike.

Let's give young activists a chance to make a difference while ensuring our elderly receive the best care possible. Show Washington your support for a Caregiver Corps.
Dear President Obama,

The past twenty years have seen great advancements in assisted living and eldercare establishments, but we're just getting started. The Baby Boomer generation has given so much to our nation but now they need our help as they age. To meet this need, I support the establishment of a Caregiver Corps: an organization that places recent college graduates with families and assisted living residences in exchange for debt forgiveness.

More than 60 million Americans are family caregivers already, and it's still not enough to meet our elderly's needs. Young people who can't commit to foreign service with the Peace Corps could still serve the country by improving their own communities.

With $1 trillion in outstanding college debt and 40% of seniors living below the poverty line, this program would be well within the public's best interest. In fact, the program's scope could be broadened to more age groups for wider accessibility. For high school students, college credit would be a viable incentive, while older participants could receive small stipends. We can't ignore our senior citizens, and the Caregiver Corp would create job opportunities for the next generation while meeting this need.
