End Fossil Fuel Subsidies in Canada!

  • av: Green Party of Canada

The Liberal government has broken its election promise to phase out fossil fuel subsidies. It continues to bankroll some of Canada's worst polluters to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars annually.

Join the Green Party of Canada in calling on the government to put an end to these corporate handouts!

It makes no sense to put a price on carbon while paying lucrative subsidies to some of our worst greenhouse gas polluters.

Our petition calls on the Liberal government to get serious about fighting climate change by shutting off this cash pipeline to wealthy oil and gas companies!

We could be using that money to give Canadians better health care, education and green infrastructure. Instead, the federal government is stuffing the pockets of its corporate friends, even as they undermine efforts to avert a climate emergency.

Our tax dollars should benefit ALL Canadians through better services and greener infrastructure.

Add your name and help us put an end to these wasteful and counterproductive subsidies.

Dear Minister McKenna and Minister Morneau,

I call on the federal government to end its fossil fuel subsidies, which are jeopardizing Canada's ability to meet its emissions reduction targets under the Paris Agreement.

This money should go towards improved social services and infrastructure — not the oil and gas industry.

Canada must be a leader in tackling the climate crisis. Continuing to pay subsidies to the very companies contributing to the problem is the wrong approach.
