Dear Premier Andrews,
Your government is setting climate emissions targets for Victoria at the end of the summer for 2025 and 2030. Victoria is already experiencing the impacts of climate change and the people in your state are looking to you for leadership.
I'm asking you to recommend strong climate targets consistent with limiting global warming to no more than 1.5 degrees. That means 45-50% cuts in emissions by 2025, and 65-80% cuts by 2030.
With these strong targets Victoria will reduce pollution right across our economy, creating thousands of jobs and new industries along the way.
We'll also get cleaner air, better health and more secure water supplies. And your strong leadership will show Australia the benefits of strong climate action, inspiring other states and bypassing the federal government's denial and delay.
