End the Suffering in Irish Laboratories

Dogs, cats, mice, horses, pigs and rabbits were among the nearly 230, 000 live animals that were used for research last year in Ireland.

According to recent documentation, although the number of experiments decreased as a whole, the amount of incidents considered “severe” actually rose.

According to the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA). “Severe procedures indicate a major departure from the animal’s usual state of health or well-being, and cause long-lasting moderate pain, suffering or distress, or short term severe pain. This might include toxicity testing under legislation where fatalities may occur, surgical procedures that cause severe post-operative pain and the breeding of animals with serious genetic disorders.

In short, these animals could end up dead or disfigured.

It is unacceptable that nearly 70,000 animals had to endure this cruelty last year. As animal lovers, it is our responsibility to take care and guard over the other living things with which we share our planet. We should not stand for the suffering of animals in our name. Please take a stand and sign the petition and ask the Irish government to reduce the amount of animal suffering in Irish laboratories.
