Demand Justice for Wombats: Urge the Government to Introduce Tough Laws to Punish People Who Illegally Kill Wildlife

Who would want to kill an innocent wombat? Sadly, Australian multimillionaire car dealer, Tony Azzi, is being investigated after photos surfaced of him posing next to dead wombats with a rifle slung over his shoulder.

According to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, allegations have been made that Azzi used a high-powered rifle and semi-automatic pistols to kill not only wombats but other native animals at his New South Wales farm. National Parks and Wildlife are conducting the investigation.

As stated in the news report: "Wombats are classified as protected fauna under the National Parks and Wildlife Act. Unless a special licence has been obtained from the Office of Environment and Heritage, it is a criminal offence to harm them. Offenders can face six months' jail and/or a fine of $11,000 plus $1100 for each additional offence."

Those that kill native animals must be bought to justice (if found guilty after a thorough investigation has been carried out through the criminal justice system).

Will you join me in urging the NSW Government to send a message to offenders and increase penalties for people who kill native animals with intent. Fines should be increased and jail time should be made mandatory in cases of cruelty.
